Peter Formanek, CEO and Founder of Outdoor Innovation, has earned Wilderness First Aid certification through the University of New Mexico’s International Mountain Medicine Center — one of the most respected wilderness medicine programs in the country.
The course, delivered by UNM’s Department of Emergency Medicine, requires candidates to demonstrate proficiency across both cognitive and hands-on skills evaluations. Successful graduates are prepared to assess and treat injuries, emergencies, and medical events in remote environments — far from conventional emergency response.
“Built for the field. Proven in it.” — that’s not just a tagline. It’s a standard we hold ourselves to, personally.
For a studio that designs, tests, and brings to market gear used in the backcountry, this certification carries weight beyond the credential itself. Understanding what can go wrong out there — and having the training to respond — shapes how we build. Every ultralight upgrade we engineer has to perform when conditions get real. Peter’s WFA training deepens that commitment from the inside out.
The UNM International Mountain Medicine Center — headquartered in Albuquerque, NM — trains outdoor professionals, guide services, search-and-rescue personnel, and medical practitioners in wilderness emergency response. Their program is recognized nationally across the outdoor industry.
The field demands it. Now we’re ready for it.
